BMW to recall more than 29,000 vehicles in the United States due to fire risk
The German carmaker BMW has initiated a recall campaign for 29,119 vehicles in the United States due to electrical problems that could lead to a fire. This is reported by Reuters with reference to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The engine starter relay in cars turned out to be susceptible to corrosion, which could potentially lead to a short circuit and further ignition of cars, the department said.
The recall concerns several models, including the 530e xDrive, 740Le xDrive, and some BMW iPerformance models.
As part of the recall campaign, BMW dealers will replace the starter motor for free.
On March 24, Volkswagen carmaker and Cupra (a subsidiary of the Spanish automaker SEAT, part of the Volkswagen Group) announced the recall of more than 94,000 electric vehicles worldwide due to the threat of fire. The recalled vehicles were manufactured from February 7, 2022, to August 23, 2024.
