The main threat to Italy and Europe is illegal migration, not Russia. This was stated by Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Matteo Salvini in an interview on July 14.

When asked whether Russia poses a threat to Europe, the politician replied negatively.

“no. I think the threat that Italian citizens face on a daily basis is illegal and clandestine immigration," REC News quoted him as saying.

Salvini also touched upon the topic of amendments to the electoral legislation regarding the preference system.

"I have always been elected to both the Milan Municipality and the European Parliament based on the preferences of voters, so this would not be a problem for me," the deputy prime minister added.

On July 10, the Finnish Interior Ministry proposed extending the law on the expulsion of refugees. The law on Expulsion, adopted in 2024, gives the authorities the right, if necessary, to restrict the reception of asylum seekers on a separate section of the border due to the threat of so—called instrumentalized entry (when migration is used as an instrument of political pressure). The law came into force on July 22, 2024, but in practice, the Finnish authorities have never resorted to it.
