The authorities of the northeastern Chinese province of Liaoning evacuated more than 260 thousand people due to the powerful typhoon Bavi that hit the mainland of the country. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on July 14.

Authorities said that heavy rains are expected to continue until the end of the day on July 14, with extreme downpours expected in some areas as the Bavi attracts huge amounts of tropical moisture to the north, creating a steady stream of humid air into northern China.

Tropical cyclone Bavi, which has an area the size of France, formed in the Pacific Ocean in early July. Chinese meteorologists claim that the durability of the typhoon is largely due to the unusually well-preserved warm core, which allows this cyclone to retain most of the moisture as it moves north towards the Korean Peninsula.
