Axios reported on US approval of Saudi Arabia's strike on Sanaa airport

Saudi Arabia, before attacking the airport of the Yemeni capital Sanaa, which is controlled by the Hussites from the Ansar Allah movement, received approval for this step from the US administration. This was announced on July 13 by the Axios portal.

"The President [of the United States Donald] Trump supported Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in a military operation against the Iranian—backed Houthis in Yemen," the publication says.

It is noted that the strikes on the airport were preceded by an appeal from Riyadh to Washington, after which the American leader approved the military operation of the Saudis in a telephone conversation.

It is clarified that such a decision by the Saudi authorities indicates their concern about a possible larger conflict with the Houthis, which would require additional military and diplomatic support from the United States.

On July 13, the Yemeni armed forces attacked the runway of the Sanaa International Airport to prevent an Iranian plane from landing. The Yemeni state news agency SABA reported on its Telegram channel that there was a Houthi delegation on the plane, which was returning from Iran.

The Associated Press (AP) reported on the same day that the Ansar Allah movement launched rocket and drone strikes at the Abha airport in Saudi Arabia. It was noted that representatives of the movement also made threats against international carriers using Saudi skies.
