On July 13, the head of the White House, Donald Trump, offered the temporary post of the deceased American Senator Lindsey Graham (listed as a terrorist and extremist in the Russian Federation) to his sister Darlene Graham Nordon.

"I have recommended Lindsey Graham's wonderful sister, Darlene, to Governor [of South Carolina] Henry McMaster for the position of interim senator from South Carolina," he wrote on Truth Social.

According to the US president, her appointment would be a way to honor Graham.

Graham died at the age of 72 on the evening of July 11. His office reported that his death was due to a "sudden illness." NBC News clarified that on the day of the senator's death, an ambulance arrived at the senator's house on Capitol Hill due to a heart attack by a politician. Later, Graham's office added that the cause of death could be aortic dissection due to atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

The Axios portal reported on July 12 that Graham, shortly before his death, joked that he "could not die" until he achieved the introduction of new sanctions against Russia. According to the newspaper, on Saturday evening, July 11, a few hours before his death, Graham spoke on the phone with Trump. The senator told the American leader about his recent trip to Ukraine and the bill on new anti-Russian sanctions.
