In Michigan, more than 2.6 thousand people have contracted a parasitic infection.
In the U.S. state of Michigan, 2,640 people have contracted an infection caused by parasites. This was reported on July 13 by the Reuters news agency, citing representatives of the regional health department.
"Health officials in the state of Michigan have reported 2,640 cases related to an outbreak of cyclosporosis, an intestinal infection caused by the cyclospore parasite, which is often transmitted through contaminated food or water," the publication says.
It is specified that 44 people were hospitalized due to infection. According to the agency, the diseases were recorded in 10 more American states. As noted by the Michigan Department of Health, the infection could have spread through lettuce or other foods.
In Canada, on June 30, a child died after contact with a bat. The boy woke up at night because the mouse was interfering with his breathing, brushed the animal off his face, and his father caught and released him into the street. The parents did not notice the bite marks and did not seek help. After 19 days, the boy began to have facial numbness and vomiting, the doctors did not immediately diagnose, as the family denied contact with the animal. The infection affected the nervous system, and the child could not be saved.
