- Damage to the beach infrastructure after the storm was assessed in the Kaliningrad region
In the Kaliningrad region, the beaches of Yantarny and Zelenogradsk were most seriously affected by the storm. This was announced on July 13 by representatives of municipalities at an operational meeting in the regional government.
"The boardwalk is very heavily skidded, in some places the height of the sand reaches 1.5 m, that is, it is practically invisible, special equipment is required. To date, we are evaluating the order, there is no equipment of our own, for more than 1.5 million rubles," said Irina Grakova, head of the administration of the Yantarny City District, quoted by TASS.
It is noted that the most significant damage — by 25 million rubles — was recorded in Yantarny. It is noted that the inflatable water park has completely failed — about 20 retaining nets have been damaged, the facility will resume operation only in 2027. In addition, the observation deck in Becker Park, the roof of the school and kindergarten were damaged.
It is specified that in the Zelenograd district, 15 business entities operating on beaches suffered damage, the amount of damage for each is from 500 thousand to 5 million rubles. According to Alexander Kitaev, the head of the district administration, Malina Beach was the most affected, three beaches were lost, sun beds and kitchen equipment were lost, and one shopping facility was completely destroyed. About 3 million rubles more were damaged to municipal property: rescue towers, navigation structures and fences were damaged.
In addition, losses in Baltiysk were estimated at 1.5 million rubles, as equipment and playgrounds at the central beach complex were covered with sand. No irreparable damage was recorded in Pionerskoye, all the consequences were eliminated by the municipal services.
On July 8, the correspondent of the news agency Vesti reported that a five-point storm in the Baltic Sea completely washed away the beach in Zelenogradsk. It was clarified that, despite the rampant elements and waves from 4 to 5 m high, tourists continue to come to the coast to take photos. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, published in the Maks messenger, a northwesterly wind with a speed of 17-22 m/s remains in the Kaliningrad region.
Kaliningrad was hit by a storm on July 8. It was noted that the areas in the west of the regional capital, which are closer to the bay, were most affected. 13 cars were damaged.
