Russian woman Stopchenko became the world junior sailing champion

Russian athlete Taisiya Stopchenko won the gold medal at the Junior World Sailing Championships, the press service of the St. Petersburg Sailing Union reported on July 10.

"Friends, we have lightning! Taisiya Stopchenko is the world champion in the Olympic iQFOiL class among juniors and youth – 2026," the organization's Telegram channel says.

Another post contains a video of the moment when the champion rejoiced at her victory in the competition, jumping out of the boat with a jubilant shout.

Taisiya scored 18 points in the competition in the Olympic IQFoil class (a board with a triangular sail on the mast and a hydrofoil). Sophie Clark, an athlete from Great Britain, took the second place, and Tea Le Born Zibetti, a rival from France, took the third place, Sport-Express pointed out.

The competition was held in Spain from 3 to 10 July. Athletes from the Russian Federation participated in the tournament in a neutral status.

In early June, the International Sailing Federation allowed Russian juniors (athletes under the age of 23 inclusive (U24)) to compete under the national flag and anthem. The World Sailing Council has lifted all restrictions in force since 2022 on Belarusian athletes, judges and staff, including requirements for neutral status and a ban on the use of national symbols.
