Putin replaced Russian ambassadors to Qatar and Seychelles
Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed Artem Kozhin as the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Qatar. The relevant document was published on the official Internet portal of legal information on July 10.
"To appoint Artyom Kozhin as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the state of Qatar," the text of the document says.
Previously, the diplomat headed the Russian mission in the Seychelles. He replaced Dmitry Guadkin as head of the diplomatic mission in Doha. Kirill Sokolov-Shcherbachev was appointed as the new head of the diplomatic mission in Victoria instead of Kozhin.
Kozhin, who served as Deputy Director of the Press and Information Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, has been working in the Seychelles for the past five years. The diplomat also has experience working at the Russian Embassy in the UK, speaks Arabic and English.
Guadkin is one of the most experienced specialists in the region. The Arabist has been in the diplomatic service since 1990, and has worked in the Ministry's foreign offices since 2005, including in Syria, Egypt and Oman. Kirill Sokolov-Shcherbachev, the new ambassador to the Seychelles, previously served as head of the consular department at the Russian Embassy in London.
Vyacheslav Gladkov, the former governor of the Belgorod Region, was appointed Russian Ambassador to Abkhazia on June 27. He was recommended for this post by the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots. Gladkov resigned in May of his own accord.
