The State Duma assessed the chances of Ukraine to establish production of Patriot
Ukraine's chances of establishing its own production of Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM) are extremely low and, at best, will take 10-15 years. Andrei Kolesnik, a member of the State Duma's defense committee, expressed this opinion on Thursday, July 9.
He recalled that Japan, with its technological capabilities, had been setting up Patriot production for five years.
"Ukraine will do this on its own in 10-15 years, if, of course, all 50 countries that are currently involved in aggressive actions against Russia help it," the deputy said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .
Kolesnik stressed that the Russian side will monitor the situation and is unlikely to allow the deployment of such production on the territory of Ukraine.
Earlier, on July 8, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States would grant Ukraine a license to manufacture Patriot air defense systems, according to the website. kp.ru . He clarified that this is not about the supply of ready-made complexes, but about the transfer of technology and the right to produce them, RT reports.
On July 9, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced the receipt of a new batch of missiles for Patriot systems from the United States in the coming days.
Responsible Statecraft magazine said on June 24 that Trump should not grant Ukraine a license to manufacture Patriot air defense systems on its territory. It is noted that it will become easier for Washington's competitors to gain access to American military secrets.
On July 2, Zelensky accused Western states of failing to fulfill their obligations to supply missiles to the country. The head of the Kiev regime cited Norway as an example of non-fulfillment of agreements. According to him, the authorities of this country declared their readiness to pay for 200 missiles, but so far none of them have been delivered.
