The therapist named gastrointestinal problems as one of the causes of migraines.
Migraine — periodic bouts of intense headache — is often not only a vascular problem, but also a consequence of inflammatory processes in the gastrointestinal tract (GIT). Therapist Lyudmila Lapa told RT about this on July 9.
The specialist explained that vascular spasm can occur in the stomach or duodenum due to swelling or inflammation. It causes a pain syndrome, the waves of which radiate to the head and are accompanied by nausea and vomiting.
"Wherever it forms, it will still radiate in the head, because all the vessels connect to each other, there are much more nerve endings there, and the pain syndrome is also higher there," Lapa clarified.
On June 17, Zarema Ten, head of the Center for Public Health and Medical Prevention at Vidnovskaya Clinical Hospital, said that members of the same family are often at risk for migraines. Women, the expert pointed out, experience migraines much more often than men due to fluctuations in hormone levels, which often provoke bouts of pain.
