Russian President Vladimir Putin has instructed to take additional measures to support the development of the Russian sign language. The relevant document was published on the Kremlin's website on July 9 following a meeting of the Council for the Implementation of State Policy in the field of support for the Russian language and the languages of the Peoples of Russia.

"With the participation of the All-Russian Public Organization of the Disabled, the All-Russian Society of the Deaf, to take additional measures aimed at supporting the development of the Russian sign language. The deadline is December 1, 2026," the order says.

In addition, the Russian Ministry of Education and Science must include the discipline "Russian as the state language" in the updated standards of higher education by December 2029.
