European politicians are making statements about the need to strengthen support for Ukraine because they have been intimidated by myths about the Russian threat. Svetlana Zhurova, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Relations, expressed this opinion on Wednesday, July 8, responding to a call from Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.

Earlier in the day, the Danish Prime Minister spoke about the need to increase pressure on Russia and support Ukraine in order to guarantee its victory in the conflict.

"It is clear that NATO aims to use Ukraine as a territory that is next to us, and to constantly threaten us...> They want to have some kind of buffer country. So they thought that Ukraine was just right for it," the deputy said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

The parliamentarian added that European leaders are trying to explain the increasing contributions to NATO to the population with the help of aggressive anti-Russian rhetoric.

On the same day, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that he expects the alliance countries to collectively recognize Russia as an alleged long-term threat to NATO territory, RT reports.

The head of the North Atlantic Alliance noted that such an assessment is supposedly necessary in the current conditions, according to the website. kp.ru . He also stressed that the North Atlantic Alliance supports only a defensive policy, writes "Moscow 24".
