Over the past day, 292 road accidents were recorded on Russian roads, in which 22 people were killed and 367 injured. This was reported to Izvestia on July 8 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Russian Interior Ministry. 19 of the dead were drivers and passengers, the ministry said.

As a result of 58 accidents involving pedestrians, three people were killed and 57 others were injured. Among the injured are 20 child pedestrians, 11 of whom were injured when crossing the roadway in unintended places. Of the total number of pedestrian incidents, 22 occurred at pedestrian crossings and 36 outside their area of operation.

17 bus accidents were recorded on Russian roads, in which there were no fatalities, but 23 road users, including three children, needed medical attention. The reason for nine bus accidents was traffic violations committed by their drivers.

Over the past day, 66 accidents involving minors were registered, 77 young road users were injured, including 36 passengers, 21 drivers, ten of whom were driving motor vehicles. There are no dead children.

One of the most vulnerable categories among underage road users are child passengers, the State Traffic Inspectorate reminds. Therefore, when traveling with a child in a car, it is necessary to choose a safe driving style: avoid sudden maneuvers and lane changes on the road, and avoid overtaking. Even where this maneuver is allowed, there remains a risk of an emergency due to violations or inattention of another driver, the department notes.

According to Anton Belan, Deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, Police Colonel Anton Belan, one of the main causes of accidents among underage drivers is the lack of proper adult supervision.

"Parents often purchase equipment for their children themselves, such as mopeds or so-called pit bikes, which are prohibited from driving on public roads. In addition, teenagers and their parents often ignore the legal age for driving a vehicle, as well as the need to obtain the appropriate category of driver's license after completing training at an auto or motorcycle school," Anton Belan emphasized.

He reminded that during the summer holidays, parents need to strengthen control over the leisure time of children and adolescents, as well as the availability of vehicles for them. Explanatory conversations should be constantly held with them about the rules of the road and the inadmissibility of driving motor vehicles without a driver's license and protective equipment, Anton Belan noted. In addition, in order to eliminate the very possibility of a dangerous trip, adults should keep keys and documents from vehicles in a place inaccessible to minors, he stressed.

On July 1, a social campaign "Promoting Safety" was launched in the Moscow region, aimed at reducing the number of accidents at intersections. The Moscow region became the first of 40 regions in which this social campaign will be held.
