Import of new cars to Russia increased by a quarter
Imports of new passenger cars (up to three years old) to our country increased by 25% in the first half of the year. This was announced on July 8 by Sergey Tselikov, General Director of the Autostat analytical agency, in his Telegram channel.
In the first six months, 186.3 thousand new cars were imported to Russia. The main importing country is China, which accounts for 70% of new cars imported to Russia (130.5 thousand units). Compared to the first six months of last year, the volume of cars delivered from China increased by 14%, the expert said.
"Kyrgyzstan has become the main transit country. Imports of new cars from there increased almost threefold (+192%) to 35.2 thousand units. Almost every fifth imported new car (18.9%) this year was imported through Kyrgyzstan," the head of Autostat said
At the same time, imports of new cars from South Korea decreased by 45% to 3.6 thousand units. The share of this country in the volume of imports was less than 2%, said Tselikov.
As for used cars older than three years, according to the general director of Autostat, 205.2 such models were imported to Russia in the first half of the year, which is 13% more than last year's figures. At the same time, more than half (57.3%) of used cars (117.7 thousand units) came to us from Japan — 31% more than a year earlier.
"China is becoming a full-fledged supplier of second-hand automotive. The increase in imports compared to last year was +124% (50.5 thousand units). Every fourth used car (24.6 thousand units) came from China," said Tselikov.
Imports of used cars from South Korea fell by 61% to 16.1 thousand units. According to the head of Autostat, this is due to the introduction of a preferential recycling rate at 160 hp at the end of last year. For the same reason, imports from Georgia and the UAE decreased. As Sergey Tselikov noted, 96% of used cars imported into our country in the first half of the year have a capacity of up to 160 "horses".
Yesterday it became known that sales of plug-in hybrids in our country increased by 132% in the first half of the year. In the first six months, Russians bought 30,730 such cars. Their market share has exceeded 5%.
