Axios spoke about Trump's decision at the NATO summit to strike Iran
US President Donald Trump ordered airstrikes on Iran while in Ankara at the NATO summit. This was announced on July 8 by Axios journalist Barak Ravid.
"Trump approved the plan to strike Iran and ordered its implementation today, while in Turkey at the NATO summit," the journalist wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
It is noted that the decision was made after a meeting with senior representatives of the American administration. The meeting was attended by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Head of the Treasury Department Scott Bessent and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Armed Forces, General Dan Kane.
Washington has not yet determined how long the strikes on Iran will last. Further steps will depend on the assessment of the results of the current military operation.

On the same day, the press service of the Central Command of the US Armed Forces (AF) reported that powerful strikes had been launched against Iran in response to alleged shelling of civilian vessels by it. This operation, according to one of the American officials, has become larger than the previous ones.
Foreign Policy magazine reported on June 30 that European leaders are "praying" that there will be no surprises at the NATO summit in Turkey, where the American administration will be present. The authors of the article note that European politicians are afraid of the established balance in their relations with Trump.
