Swedish Prime Minister confirms delivery of 32 Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine

Stockholm will provide Kiev with 16 Gripen C/D fighter jets as part of military assistance and the same number of Gripen E aircraft as part of defense contracts. This was announced on July 7 by Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson during a press conference before the start of the NATO summit in Ankara.

"Currently, Ukraine has purchased the latest generation of Gripen E fighter jets. We have signed an agreement on 16 fighters. At the same time, we are transferring the same number of existing fighters, so we will deliver a total of 32 aircraft, although at different times," he said in a broadcast on the NATO YouTube channel.

Kristersson added that he considers support for Ukraine to be Sweden's top priority. He also said that the other states of the association should follow the example of Stockholm and strengthen the supply of military aid to the Kiev regime.

European countries are taking the costs on themselves, but they have practically nothing to help Kiev with.

The Aftonbladet newspaper reported on May 27 that Sweden is working on the issue of strengthening the Ukrainian Air Force, including the supply of Saab JAS 39 Gripen multirole fighters. In addition, negotiations on the sale of more modern JAS 39E fighters were planned to begin in the near future. Ukraine will pay for these planes with a loan from the European Union.

Prior to that, on February 9, the Defense Express publication noted that the purchase of 250 new fighters — 150 Gripen models and 100 Rafale models — could cost Kiev more than €50 billion.
