Sheep farmers of Transbaikalia will cut 250 thousand tons of sheep wool

More than 250 thousand tons of sheep's wool are planned to be received in Transbaikalia based on the results of the shearing campaign, which will be announced after August 1. More than 100 thousand farm animals have been prepared for the events, the press service of the regional government reports.

Sheep shearing takes place in 10 municipalities. Farms have already shorn 23.1 thousand individuals and received 60.4 tons of wool, which is 4% higher than in 2025 over the same period.

According to ChitaMedia news agency, in early June, over 15 million rubles were allocated to regional sheep farmers to support production. The recipients of the subsidy have committed themselves to send more than 81 tons of wool to Russian processing plants.

Since 2017, the compensatory subsidy for sheep's wool has more than tripled. The rate was increased in order to support the industry, which had previously suffered due to falling global prices for textile products.
