The gynecologist spoke about the connection between endometriosis and infertility

Endometriosis is one of the most common gynecological diseases in women of reproductive age and can reduce the likelihood of natural conception due to inflammatory processes, the formation of adhesions and disruption of the reproductive organs. Ekaterina Lisovskaya, a gynecologist at the SM Clinic, told Izvestia about this on July 9.

Endometriosis is a chronic disease in which endometrial cells begin to grow outside the uterine cavity. Foci can appear on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and in severe cases, in the intestines, bladder, and other organs, causing inflammation, pain, and adhesions.

According to Lisovskaya, many women do not pay attention to the symptoms of the disease for a long time, considering painful menstruation to be the norm. At the same time, regular abdominal pain, which increases during the cycle, during sexual intercourse or going to the toilet, may be a reason to consult a specialist. The gynecologist noted that even mild forms of endometriosis can affect a woman's reproductive function.

"Endometriosis significantly affects a woman's reproductive function. Firstly, overgrown tissue often leads to the formation of adhesions, which can disrupt the patency of the fallopian tubes. Secondly, when the ovaries are affected, their function decreases, which affects the maturation and quality of eggs, disrupts the ovulation process. Thirdly, endometriosis provokes chronic inflammation in the pelvis, which can worsen the conditions for attachment of the embryo to the uterine mucosa, even with the onset of fertilization," Lisovskaya explained.

Unhealthy situation: there is a significant shortage of doctors in Russia

The highest need is for internists, ultrasound diagnostics doctors, and procedural nurses.

At the same time, the specialist stressed that the diagnosis does not mean that pregnancy is impossible. Modern treatment methods make it possible to control the disease, reduce pain and restore reproductive capabilities. Laparoscopy is one of the most effective treatment methods. According to the doctor, the method allows you to remove foci of endometriosis, eliminate adhesions and restore the work of the affected organs through small punctures.

"Laparoscopy is considered one of the most effective and low-trauma methods of treating endometriosis. The technology allows you to delicately remove foci, separate adhesions and restore the function of the ovaries, fallopian tubes and other affected organs through small punctures," Lisovskaya added.

The doctor noted that after such interventions, many patients have increased chances of natural conception, and recovery is faster compared to traditional operations. Lisovskaya recalled that endometriosis can go on for a long time without symptoms, so it is important for women to visit a gynecologist regularly and undergo pelvic examinations.

Earlier, on April 9, Svetlana Khlynova, associate professor of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Pirogov University of the Russian Ministry of Health, said that during menstruation it is worth contacting a doctor if painkillers from the group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin, diclofenac or ibuprofen do not relieve pain.
