A suspect in the arson of Rops' House was detained in St. Petersburg.

In St. Petersburg, a man suspected of setting fire to an architectural monument was detained in the Petrogradsky district. Rops' house burned down on Petrovskaya Spit the day before, on July 6.

The suspect is a 34—year-old local resident. According to preliminary data, he, being intoxicated, entered a wooden building and lit a cigarette. This could have caused a fire. The issue of initiating a criminal case is now being resolved, writes 78.ru .

At the police station, the detainee said that sometimes he smoked in this house, sitting on a barrel in the room. This time, he fell asleep and was woken up by the sound of flames. According to him, there was another man near the house who was filming what was happening on video. The detainee admitted that the fire occurred due to his carelessness and carelessness.

The Rops House has the status of a cultural heritage monument of regional significance. This is a wooden mansion that was built before the revolution. It was planned to be renovated back in 2022.
