- The Russian Foreign Ministry announced the preparation of the Baltic countries for the deportation of Russian speakers
The Baltic countries are openly preparing for the mass deportation of Russian-speaking residents. This was announced on July 7 by Grigory Lukyantsev, Director of the Department of Multilateral Cooperation on Human Rights at the Russian Foreign Ministry.
"The Baltic states are openly preparing for the mass deportation of Russian—speaking residents, hoping, apparently, in this way to finally solve the "Russian question" and the unprecedented, especially for the 21st century, problem of mass statelessness in their territories," TASS quoted him as saying.
Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, announced on June 24 that Russia was soon going to file a complaint with the International Court of Justice against the Baltic states for gross violations of the rights of Russian-speaking people living in these countries. Medvedev stressed that Russia intends to use the entire arsenal of international judicial mechanisms to counter states that pursue discriminatory policies against Russian-speaking citizens.
On April 20, Deputy of the Riga City Council Alexei Roslikov spoke about the ban on children speaking Russian in schools in Latvia. According to him, colleagues consider this language to be allegedly "kitchen", in other words, intended for communication outside public places. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov later, on May 14, declared the end-to-end defeat of the entire Baltic States by the "bacillus of Russophobia."
