- Beloe Lake in the Ryazan region was recognized as the deepest in Central Russia
Beloe Lake in the Ryazan Region has become the deepest body of water in the Central Federal District of Russia. This was reported on July 7 by RIA Novosti with reference to an employee of the P. P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
"In the depths of Lake Beloe in the Ryazan region, scientists from the P. P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences have made a discovery: according to their research, this lake turned out to be the deepest in the Central Federal District of Russia," the report says.
It is noted that the results obtained exceeded the indicators of other deep lakes in the region. In particular, the depth of Glubokoe Lake near Moscow is about 31 m.
During the research, the specialists also conducted hydrological sounding and hydrochemical monitoring. Scientists have recorded a rare phenomenon — the spring mixing of waters, which acted as a natural filter.
The researchers plan to continue studying Lake Beloe and install special hydrological equipment in the reservoir in the fall for further monitoring.
On July 1, the freshwater jellyfish Craspedocusta sowerbii, which originates from the waters of the Amazon, was first discovered in the Astrakhan region. Scientists are considering several possible ways for the jellyfish to appear in the region, including natural drift along the Volga, transport by ships with ballast water, and migration with waterfowl.
