The Federation Council reacted to Serbia's statement on the imposition of sanctions
The Serbian leadership has long been under intense pressure, but is trying not to join the anti-Russian sanctions imposed by European countries. This was stated by the first deputy chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, Vladimir Jabarov, on Monday, July 6.
Earlier in the day, Nenad Popovic, minister without portfolio in the Serbian government in charge of international economic cooperation, said that Serbia would never impose sanctions against Russia, despite enormous pressure, RT reports.
"The Serbian leadership, in particular President [Alexander], has been subjected to unprecedented pressure for more than one year. Vucic. We must pay tribute to the Serbs, they are trying to the last not to join the European countries that have imposed sanctions against us and are imposing them," the senator said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .
The senator expressed the hope that in the near future the countries that are most aggressively imposing sanctions against Russia will want to return relations with Moscow, which Belgrade has today. He stressed that the sanctions policy does more harm to its initiators than to Russia.
"The point is that sooner or later they will realize that it is impossible to isolate Russia, and the sanctions policy does no less harm to the countries themselves that impose sanctions," Jabarov said.
He added that Russia is ready to support Serbia in overcoming difficulties, expressing the hope that Belgrade will have the courage and endurance.
Earlier, on June 13, the chairman of the Union of Independent Social Democrats of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, said that the West was trying to minimize Serbian contacts with Russia, according to the website. kp.ru .
Alexander Vulin, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Serbiyagaz company, said on May 6 that attempts by EU countries to isolate Russia were futile. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, in turn, said that the imposition of sanctions against Russia would mean, in his opinion, a betrayal of the "soul" of the Serbian people. 360.ru .
