Scrap metal in Russia has risen in price to the highest in a year
By the end of June, the average cost of ferrous scrap in Russia increased to 18.25 thousand rubles per ton, updating the maximum over the past year. This is evidenced by the Translom index data on July 5.
In the last week of June, the price increased by 268 rubles. Compared to the same period in 2025, scrap increased in price by 13%, or about 2 thousand rubles per ton. The growth was recorded in all regions: in Tatarstan — up to 19.5 thousand rubles, in Yekaterinburg — up to 21.27 thousand, in Novosibirsk — up to 16.41 thousand, in the Moscow region — up to 19.52 thousand per ton, Kommersant clarifies.
Translom CEO Sergey Astakhov attributed the dynamics to the purchasing policy of metallurgists, who stepped up purchases in the spring, intensifying competition for raw materials. However, according to his estimates, by the end of the third quarter, scrap will fall in price by 1.5–2 thousand rubles from the current level due to weak demand in the construction industry. Translom also predicts a reduction in scrap collection in 2026 to 14.4 million tons, the lowest in 20 years.
