After the liberation of Konstantinovka, Russian troops continue to develop an offensive on the outskirts of the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration. The advance is coming from the south, while the Red Estuary continues to be cleared in the north, which creates conditions for a further offensive. According to experts, in the near future, Russian units will be able to take the main supply routes of the Ukrainian group under fire control and gradually exhaust it. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian side, according to the Russian Defense Ministry, refused to accept the bodies of its dead soldiers stationed in Konstantinovka.

The significance of the liberation of Konstantinovka

The liberation of Konstantinovka was the biggest success of the Russian troops in recent times. On July 3, Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, reported to the President of Russia on the capture of the city. According to Vladimir Putin, Konstantinovka has strategic importance as a major industrial center and an important transport hub of Donbass.

The commanders of the assault units from the center of Konstantinovka of the DPR reported to the head of state via video link about what was happening in the city and showed footage from reconnaissance drones.

The most important thing was to cling to urban development, military expert Alexei Leonkov told Izvestia.

After discovering the weak points, our fighters broke through the defenses and quickly deployed assault and reconnaissance groups. They entered the rear of the AFU units, cutting them off from the main forces. The cleansing of the remaining pockets of resistance lasted more than half a month," he said.

Russian assault units were able to block elite units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the city, military expert Viktor Litovkin told Izvestia.

"In mid—June, units of the 28th and 100th mechanized brigades, as well as units from the Carpathian Sich formation, the 49th separate battalion and the 156th brigade, were surrounded there," he said. — The blocked group was promptly eliminated and captured, and the enemy's attempts to launch a counterattack from Druzhkovka failed.

Konstantinovka is one of the key fortress cities. In addition to the fact that industrial enterprises were located there, it was also an important logistics hub, military expert Yuri Knutov told Izvestia. This is the gateway to Kramatorsk — from Druzhkovka, located behind Konstantinovka, it is four kilometers away.

"We are approaching Kramatorsk from the south, which the enemy has not prepared for," he explained. — Temporary fortifications are currently being built there, but there will no longer be such concrete fortresses that were built to deter our troops from the east. And this makes it easier to liberate Kramatorsk and Slavyansk.

After the liberation of Konstantinovka, the movement of troops will continue to the west or southwest, the expert added.

— The Slavyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration will be taken into the ring of fire, — predicts Yuri Knutov. — All roads that lead there will be under our fire control, which will make it possible to exhaust and bleed the enemy quite effectively. And eventually— to achieve a position where he weakens. As a rule, it takes about forty days.

As a result, Russian troops will approach the agglomeration from three directions — from the north, south and east, the expert added.

The success in liberating Konstantinovka testifies to the high degree of readiness of Russian troops, Andrei Koshkin, retired colonel, head of the Department of Political Analysis and Socio-Psychological Processes at Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, told Izvestia.

"This is the main thing that characterizes the line of combat contact today," he said. — Of course, we strive to liberate the territory of the Donetsk People's Republic. And most likely, the relevant units and units will move to Slavyansk and Kramatorsk.

They refused to take the bodies

On July 4, 2026, the Russian Ministry of Defense proposed to hold a humanitarian action to transfer to Ukraine the bodies of dead soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, found in Konstantinovka. However, during the study of this issue by the relevant services, the Ukrainian side refused the offer.

"Thus, the Kiev regime has done absolutely nothing to ensure that the bodies of the dead Ukrainian servicemen are properly buried by their relatives. The Ukrainian authorities have once again demonstrated their attitude towards the dead servicemen as expendable, who are mainly going to the front line as a result of forced mobilization," the ministry said.

The next day, the military department reported on the situation in the Red Estuary of the Donetsk People's Republic. Units of the 25th Army continue to mine and clear the city of scattered groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and assault units of the 67th Motorized Rifle Division are developing an offensive in the direction of the Blue Lakes, located west of the Red Estuary. In the city itself, up to 20 Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers, an HMMWV armored combat vehicle, two pickup trucks, three robotic complexes and 11 drone control points were destroyed during the day, the military department reported.

According to the ministry, last week alone, Russian units liberated 11 settlements in the Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia regions and the DPR.

And since the beginning of the year, Russian troops have liberated 133 settlements and taken control of more than 3,000 square kilometers of "our land in Donbass and Novorossiya," President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting. The Head of State noted that the security zone being formed on the Russian-Ukrainian border has significantly expanded in recent months.
