Political analyst Georgy Asatryan assessed on Friday, July 3, how justified are the fears that the Netherlands is preparing for a "conflict on the eastern flank of NATO," and what is the likelihood of a direct conflict between Russia and Europe.

According to the expert, the Netherlands, like many other EU countries, has long been involved in the conflict in Ukraine.

​​​​​​"They finance Kiev, supply weapons of various types to the Ukrainian army and have recently been engaged in the joint production of weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This is a classic proxy war format," he said in an interview with Mail News.

In addition, the expert recalled that the European armies advise and train the Ukrainian military.

"As for the direct war between Russia and Europe, there is none yet. At the same time, the involvement of the European Union in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia is very large—scale in terms of the efforts and resources that the Europeans spend," he believes.

Asatryan noted that many European countries are turning into "one big military factory" where weapons of various levels are produced for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"And all this poses a serious threat to Russia. In fact, the military—industrial complex of Ukraine has been moved outside the country and is located in leading European countries," he concluded.
