Swedish actor and athlete Kjell Nilsson has died at the age of 76.
Swedish athlete and actor Kjell Nilsson, who gained worldwide fame for his role in the film Mad Max 2: Road Warrior, has died at the age of 76. This was reported on July 3 by the Daily Star newspaper.
According to a representative of the artist, for four years Nilsson struggled with kidney disease. He died surrounded by his loved ones in the Australian state of Queensland.
Kjell Nilsson was born in Gothenburg, Sweden. In 1980, he moved to Australia to coach Swedish athletes before the Olympic Games in Moscow. During this period, he met his future wife, actress Kate Ferguson. On her advice, Nilsson decided to start an acting career in Australia.
He was most popular for his role as Lord Gumungus, the leader of a band of marauders in the 1981 post—apocalyptic action film. His character is recognized as one of the most memorable antagonists of the film franchise. Nilsson also took part in the filming of such films as "Pirates" (1982), "Man of the Word" (1984) and "On the Verge of Power" (1987).
