Russian roofers climbed the spire of the Empire State Building in New York

Russian roofers Angela Nicolau and Ivan Beerkus climbed the Empire State Building in New York and installed a banner with a quote on its spire: "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world knows peace." This was reported on July 1 by the Fox News channel.

"The couple was later detained, and charges have not yet been filed. <...> Approximately 40 police officers arrived at the building and regulated traffic," the publication says.

It is reported that after climbing, the man took an engagement ring out of his backpack and proposed to the girl.

As follows from Article 167, paragraph 10 of the New York Administrative Code, a couple may face a fine or imprisonment for climbing the Empire State Building. The document provides for the possibility of imposing both types of punishment simultaneously.

According to the TV channel, it remains unknown how the couple managed to bypass the security system and climb to the top of the building.

On December 24, 2025, CBS reported that in the city of White Settlement in Texas, police are looking for two men who tried to steal an ATM from a store, causing significant damage to it. It was clarified that the attackers, who arrived in a stolen SUV from Dallas, tied a metal cable to the ATM and tried to pull it out, abruptly starting to move. The device smashed through a storefront, demolished a store and flew out into the street, damaging a car parked at a gas station.
