Patrushev spoke about the work on preserving the ecology of Lake Baikal

More than 46 billion rubles have been allocated from the federal budget for environmental protection activities on Lake Baikal. This was announced on July 1 by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev.

As part of a working trip to the Irkutsk Region, he and the head of the region, Igor Kobzev, inspected the Vikenty Zaitsev research vessel on July 1, visited the former Baikal Pulp and Paper Mill and held a meeting of the government commission for the protection of Lake Baikal.

The Vikenty Zaitsev Scientific Research Vessel (NIS) was built to operate on Lake Baikal and is designed to conduct regular comprehensive studies of aquatic biological resources, including sonar and trawl surveys. The main practical task is related to obtaining scientific data on the state of Baikal's bioresources, including reserves and distribution of omul.

The vessel, 36.3 m long and 7.3 m wide, was built as part of the federal project "Preservation of Lake Baikal". It is equipped with echo sounders for sonar monitoring, a trawl system and a multifunctional laboratory for operational sample analysis. Its autonomy is up to 10 days. At the same time, four crew members and seven researchers can be on board at the same time.

During his working trip, the Deputy Prime Minister also visited the city of Baikalsk, where he assessed the progress of work at the former Central Processing Plant. In particular, Patrushev inspected the Solzansky landfill, which is being recultivated by the Federal Environmental Operator of the Rosatom State Corporation, as well as the territory of the industrial site of the enterprise. The company VEB is engaged in its development.The Russian Federation jointly with the Irkutsk region. At the moment, the dismantling of a third of the total number of facilities of the plant has been completed.

At a meeting of the government commission for the protection of Lake Baikal, which the Deputy Prime Minister held in Irkutsk, participants discussed a wide range of issues related to the preservation and development of socio-economic and tourism potential of local subjects.

"Baikal is one of the most beautiful places on our planet. At the same time, this territory plays a significant role in the socio-economic development of local subjects, and is also a landmark tourist center of our country. At the state level, it is necessary to ensure a balance that preserves the unique ecosystem and at the same time allows the development of regions for the benefit of people. Solving such a problem requires an integrated approach and interaction at all levels. In recent years, legislation has been systematically improved for this purpose, as well as a set of environmental protection measures. More than 46 billion rubles have already been allocated from the federal budget for them. The work is being carried out in many directions. In particular, a system of state environmental monitoring is being formed, and an infrastructure for waste management is being created. Six cities of the Baikal Natural Territory participate in the Clean Air federal project. An important component is the construction and modernization of sewage treatment plants," Patrushev said.

During the meeting, the participants focused on solving such tasks as reforestation in the Baikal territory, fire prevention measures, the introduction of technologies that help identify risks to the forest complex in a timely manner, the conservation and reproduction of Baikal's aquatic bioresources, and other issues.

Patrushev said the day before that the reconstruction of treatment facilities in Buryatia is of high importance for the ecosystem of Lake Baikal. During a working trip to the Republic of Buryatia, the Deputy Prime Minister, together with the head of the region, Alexei Tsydenov, assessed the pace of reconstruction of the right-bank sewage treatment plants in Ulan-Ude. The capacity of the complex as a result of the reconstruction of the first stage of the second launch complex will be 130 thousand cubic meters. m per day. Here, in particular, mechanical wastewater treatment, bio-purification, disinfection and sludge treatment will be carried out.
