The priest named the main days for prayers to John the Baptist
You can pray to John the Baptist both on his memorial days and on any other days. Archpriest Maxim Pervozvansky, a cleric of the Moscow Church of the Forty Sevastian Martyrs in Spasskaya Sloboda, told Izvestia about this.
"The main day for prayer is the day of his memory. For example, on July 7th we will celebrate his birthday. On this day, it is appropriate to remember that he was born, read the description of this event in the Gospel, come to the temple, light a candle, confess and receive communion, as on any other day. We just move through life, remembering certain important events," the priest explained.
According to him, it is especially appropriate to pray to John the Baptist on the days dedicated to the memory of the saint, just as people commemorate the deceased on their memorial day or congratulate their loved ones on their birthday. The Church celebrates the memory of John the Baptist on different days of the year. Among the key dates are January 20 (Cathedral of John the Baptist); October 6 (Conception of John the Baptist) and July 7 (Nativity of John the Baptist).
At the same time, the clergyman noted, it is not necessary to single out any one main day for prayers to John the Baptist: you can turn to him any day, since the very essence of prayer is a living appeal to the saint for help, intercession and spiritual strengthening.
