A resident of Kostroma was sentenced to 25 years in a penal colony for treason and terrorism.

The court found a resident of Kostroma guilty of high treason and participation in the activities of a terrorist organization, and sentenced him to 25 years in prison. This was announced on June 30 by the press service of the Kostroma Region Prosecutor's office in the Maks messenger.

"He was convicted under Part 2 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code (participation in the activities of a terrorist organization), Article 275 of the Criminal Code (high treason). <...> The court agreed with the position of the state prosecutor and sentenced the 41-year—old man to 25 years in prison with a fine of 600 thousand rubles and restriction of liberty for one year," the publication says.

The convict will spend the first five years in prison, the remaining term in a high—security penal colony. In addition, the court ordered the confiscation of a mobile phone and a computer system unit used in the commission of crimes for state revenue.

According to the investigation, the man opposed a special military operation and in September 2024 came into contact with the paramilitary association of Ukraine. From September 2024 to May 2025, he fulfilled the tasks of the curators, transmitting information about strategic objects of the Kostroma region, including photo and video materials.

The defendant also distributed propaganda materials of a terrorist organization. According to the prosecutor's office, on the instructions of his supervisors, he was trained in mine-blasting abroad and committed acts aimed at discrediting government authorities and insulting officials of the Russian Federation.
