The military of the Russian Armed Forces took a drone strike from the Armed Forces of Ukraine to rescue five civilians.

Nazari Gura, a soldier of the 5th separate commandant's regiment of the 51st Guards Combined Arms Army of the Center group of forces, distracted an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) during the evacuation of five civilians from the village of Rodinskoye in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR). The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) took on themselves, which saved their lives. This was announced by the Russian Defense Ministry on June 30.

A group of trained fighters was sent to complete the task. After studying the situation and assessing the risks, they developed an evacuation route, which first ran through dense forest plantations, and then passed through an open area where there was a tank moat on the way.

In the forest plantations, the assistant grenade launcher shooter, Private Nazari Gura, led people along inconspicuous trails, using trees and shrubs as natural shelters. When entering an open area, the soldier organized movement in short runs from one shelter to another — ditches, mounds and sparse bushes, monitoring the safety of everyone. When the group almost reached a safe area, an enemy FPV drone appeared above them.

"I noticed that an enemy FPV was rising. <...> I understood that any delay I made was my life," Gura shared.

The soldier immediately decided to separate from the column and attract the attention of the enemy operator by opening fire on the drone to become a priority target. The UAV switched to a single target, and a few seconds later an explosion was heard next to the soldier, who managed to dodge and was wounded.

Thanks to the selfless actions of the Russian fighter, all five civilians were safely transported to a safe area.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported earlier that day that Corporal Alexander Markov, acting as part of the evacuation group, carried a wounded soldier of the Russian Armed Forces to the evacuation point from the AFU firing zone. It was noted that during the performance of first aid tasks on the battlefield and the delivery of the wounded to the evacuation point, the soldier came under heavy fire and a raid by enemy FPV drones.
