China condemns Ukrainian Armed Forces strike on bus with Belarusian citizens
China condemns the attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on a bus carrying Belarusian citizens in the Bryansk region. This was announced on June 29 by Deputy Permanent Representative of the People's Republic of China to the United Nations (UN) Sun Lei.
"China condemns any attacks on civilians. Under no circumstances should civilians become the target of attacks. Their safety must be ensured," the diplomat said.
According to him, the Chinese side calls on all interested parties to resume negotiations, show mutual political will, and strive to eliminate the root causes of the conflict based on full compliance with the principles of the UN Charter. Sun Lei added that China is ready to continue to play a constructive role in the political settlement together with the international community.
"We are guided by the "four principles" put forward by the Chairman of the [PRC] According to Xi Jinping, we maintain contacts with all parties, including Russia and Ukraine, and consistently and tirelessly promote reconciliation and advance peace negotiations," Sun Lei stressed.
Ukrainian Armed Forces militants attacked a bus carrying a children's football team from Gomel to Gelendzhik on June 17. The Investigative Committee of Russia has opened a criminal case on a terrorist act after the strike, and Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered urgent assistance to all those affected. The course of investigations, which were also launched in Belarus, is under the personal control of the leader of the republic, Alexander Lukashenko.
Russia's Acting Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Anna Evstigneeva, said on June 29 that the Russian side demands that UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres unequivocally condemn the crimes of the Kiev regime. In addition, she expressed disappointment at the lack of courage and integrity regarding the Ukrainian Armed Forces' attack on the bus at the UN secretariat.
