- Shoigu stated the need to increase the volume of construction of power generation facilities
It is necessary to significantly increase the volume of construction of renewable and affordable generation facilities for high-tech and energy-intensive industries. This was announced on June 29 by Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergei Shoigu at a meeting on the construction of hydro and thermal power plants in Siberia.
"Hydropower is a backbone element of the Russian state energy system, providing about 17% of electricity generation and 20% of installed capacity. We have one of the largest hydropower potential in the world — about 250 GW. About 80% of this potential is in Siberia and the Far East. We need the most modern technologies for the construction of new hydroelectric power plants. Our task is to significantly increase the volume of construction of renewable and affordable generation facilities for high—tech and energy-intensive industries," Shoigu stressed.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak, Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Siberian Federal District Anatoly Seryshev, senior officials of the subjects of the Siberian Federal District, representatives of the leadership of the Government of the Russian Federation and federal executive authorities, PJSC RusHydro, JSC Power Machines, other interested energy and industrial companies, as well as innovative infrastructure organizations.
The meeting discussed the progress of work on the implementation of the instructions of the President of Russia on the construction of the Krapivinskaya HPP in the Kemerovo region, the Mokskaya and Ivanovskaya HPP in the Republic of Buryatia, strengthening the capacity of the Berezovskaya GRES in the Krasnoyarsk Territory and the launch of pre-design work on the Evenki HPP in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. Under the auspices of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, practical steps will be developed to launch a new stage in the development of the Siberian hydropower industry — from selecting investors and developing mechanisms for the return of investments to resolving issues of creating reservoirs and providing new hydropower plants with the necessary equipment.
On June 23, Rosatom announced the development of a project for Russia's largest spent nuclear fuel (SNF) reprocessing and recycling of nuclear materials for their further use in the nuclear power industry, including fourth-generation power systems. According to the state corporation, the enterprise will become a key element in the development of two-component nuclear energy with a closed nuclear fuel cycle.
