The Times reported on the alleged equipping of Russian tankers with weapons
Russia allegedly began installing stationary guns on tankers for the transportation of liquefied natural gas in response to the increased European piracy. This was reported on June 29 by the British newspaper The Times.
"If arming becomes widespread, the likelihood that Western countries will decide to board Russian tankers will decrease significantly," the publication says.
These installations are designed to protect against unmanned aerial vehicles and prevent boarding attempts. According to The Times, the widespread use of such practices on ships of the Russian shadow fleet could have a serious impact on the actions of Western countries.
On June 25, French President Emmanuel Macron announced the detention of the Deliver oil tanker in the waters off the coast of Sicily. According to him, such actions were taken just a few days after the UK conducted a similar operation.
