All residents of the Kursk region illegally detained by the Ukrainian Armed Forces returned home

All residents of the Kursk region who were detained in Ukraine have been successfully returned to their homeland. This was reported to Vladimir Putin by the new Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, Yana Lantratova. The Head of State noted the high activity of the Ombudsman — she assumed her duties on May 14 — and supported the key formats of her work.

What was discussed at the meeting

The main topic of the meeting was the first results of the work of the new Ombudsman, large-scale humanitarian missions to return citizens, as well as building a cross-cutting human rights circuit with the Russian regions. Lantratova said that thanks to established communication with her Ukrainian counterpart Dmitry Lubinets, as well as close cooperation with the Russian Defense Ministry, special services and the Belarusian side, in addition to the Kuryans, 550 Russian servicemen were returned home in the first month and peaceful family reunification processes were launched.

The human rights defender stressed that the support of the participants of the special military operation is her absolute priority. Of the 14,752 requests received by the office in a month and a half, more than 52% are specifically related to the subject of SVO. Based on her past parliamentary experience, Lantratova had previously drafted 102 legislative proposals to support participants in the special operation, many of which have already become federal laws.

At a meeting with graduates of the Time of Heroes program, Putin cited evidence of this and called for a reaction from the international community.

After the tragedy in Starobilsk, the agency organized a visit by 50 foreign journalists to the destroyed college to prove to the world community that there were no military facilities there. Official letters have been sent to the OSCE, the UN Human Rights Council and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, from whom a response has been received.

On the internal track, a memorandum was signed with the head of the Central Election Commission, Ella Pamfilova, to protect the voting rights of low-mobility groups of citizens. Following the meeting, Vladimir Putin supported the policy of strengthening the regional block of the country's human rights system.
