Vucic announced his return to military service in Serbia

Conscription service in the Serbian army will resume in March 2027. This was announced on June 28 by the country's President Alexander Vucic.

"We start in March, before that the bureaucratic procedures will take place, and in March we will start with a very short compulsory military service," the Kurir newspaper quoted him as saying.

Vucic noted that conscription "will benefit all men and many women." He stressed that such a decision would bring about a change in citizens' outlook on life, as well as help them develop responsibility and seriousness.

The politician added that the younger generation will face a new level of responsibility towards the country.

On May 12, the Serbian Ministry of Defense announced that the republic had conducted joint military exercises with NATO countries for the first time in its history. It is specified that the leadership of the training activities is carried out by the deputy commander of the third Army Brigade of Serbia, Colonel Branislav Stevanovic. As a result, Serbian and NATO military personnel are expected to be able to "exchange experiences" and work out joint actions, the ministry said.
