Accident: prices for parts for individual foreign cars increased to 20%
The repair of foreign cars is hitting the purse again: since the beginning of 2026, spare parts have been rising in price unevenly, but growth has already reached 15-20% for individual brands and categories, market participants told Izvestia. The cost of components for Peugeot, Porsche and Subaru has increased most noticeably. The main factors were the volatility of the ruble exchange rate, the rise in the cost of logistics, the increase in the tax burden and the aging of the fleet, which is why the demand for spare parts is growing. According to experts, by the end of 2026, spare parts may rise in price by another 10%. Why even Chinese brands don't always save the market and how this can affect CTP is in the Izvestia article.
Why are spare parts becoming more expensive
Auto parts for the most popular car brands in Russia have risen in price by an average of 6% since the beginning of the year, the Russian Union of Motor Insurers (RSA) told Izvestia. But the dynamics is very different for individual brands: in some cases, prices are rising at double-digit rates, while for others, the increase remains moderate.
The growth of mass-market brands with a large fleet (Toyota, Mercedes, Kia and Hyundai) turned out to be below average and amounted to 2-5%, the RSA noted. According to the union, the market for parts for such machines is saturated with original components and analogues, so there are no sharp jumps here. Volkswagen, BMW, Ford and Renault spare parts have risen in price by 7-10%: they are more affected by supply disruptions and settlements.
The highest growth was recorded by Peugeot (+20%), Porsche (+15%) and Subaru (+12%). There are fewer cars of these brands in Russia, so even small changes in supply and demand have a noticeable effect on the cost, the RSA explained.
Since the beginning of the year, retail prices for spare parts for foreign cars in the mass segment have increased by about 15-20%, said Tatiana Ovchinnikova, director of the international franchise network of car service Fit Service. The increase was 9-15% for basic consumables and standard chassis parts, and 15-25% for rare items, complex components, electronics and body elements, she said.
The most expensive parts are those that depend on imports, logistics and currency calculations: body parts, exhaust systems, original engine and transmission components, especially for premium brands, explained Tatiana Ovchinnikova. Consumables and simple elements of the chassis, according to her, add more moderation.
Alexey Ivanov, the owner of the Alliance Trucks commercial vehicle dealership network, sees a similar picture. According to him, prices change the most where there are few alternative manufacturers — in suspension, braking system, optics and electronic components.
Another growth factor in 2026 was the change in tax legislation, said Arsen Kumalagov, head of the Department for Cooperation with technical Centers at Ingosstrakh. According to him, many distributors have included an increase in VAT in their prices.
The weakening of the ruble, currency volatility and the rise in the cost of logistics of parallel imports are also putting pressure on the cost, Tatyana Ovchinnikova added. Most of the components remain imported, so the exchange rate change is delayed in the price lists. In the long term, prices are supported by the aging of the fleet: the average age of cars in Russia has exceeded 15 years, so the demand for repairs is growing, the expert noted.
Which parts are getting cheaper
The dynamics of Chinese brands differs from the general market: spare parts for popular cars from China are getting cheaper. According to the RSA, prices at Omoda decreased by 3%, at Chery — by 6%, at Haval — by 5%, at Geely — by 3%. But for rare models imported in small batches, the situation is reversed: parts for Changan, Zeekr and BYD are custom-made and tied to separate chains, so they can become more expensive, said Tatiana Ovchinnikova.
There are exceptions in the segment of non-original spare parts, added Andrey Babushkin, LN Distribution's technical director. According to him, in May-June, the company reduced prices for 40% of goods by an average of 18%. At the same time, oils have risen in price by 20-40% in two months due to a shortage of basic raw materials, which account for 70-90% of the product.
The market remains unstable, according to Viktor Tolstoy, head of the Analytics Department of the Rosgosstrakh Customer Care unit. Rare parts continue to rise in price, and consumables fell by 3-5% in June. But there is still no turning point in price growth, he concluded.
What will happen to the prices of spare parts next
Most experts expect that spare parts will continue to rise in price, although the growth rate may slow down. The RSA predicts that in September the average prices in the directory of the union will increase by 8-10%.
The reason lies not only in market conditions, but also in the revision of approaches to calculations. As explained in the RSA, cheap non-original low-quality spare parts that are not suitable for full-fledged car repairs are increasingly appearing in price lists. The union expects that the Central Bank will make changes to the unified methodology for calculating CTP payments. If the amendments are adopted in the near future, a new spare parts cost guide, based on high-quality components, may appear as early as early autumn.
In the absence of currency and geopolitical shocks, the mass segment may add another 5-7% by the end of the year, says Tatiana Ovchinnikova from Fit Service. Andrey Babushkin from LN Distribution expects growth within the inflation range of 6-10%, but with the weakening of the ruble, prices will adjust. Arsen Kumalagov from Ingosstrakh assumes an increase of at least 2-3%. Further dynamics will depend on the exchange rate, supplies and logistics, added Alexey Ivanov from Alliance Traks.
Localization of Chinese brands and rules for the use of used spare parts could partially restrain prices, Viktor Tolstoy from Rosgosstrakh believes.
How can the cost of spare parts affect CTP
The rise in the price of spare parts will hit car owners not only through the cost of repairs, but also through a possible increase in CTP tariffs. The share of parts that are replaced during the restoration of the car reaches 80% of the total insurance payments, the RSA reported. Therefore, higher prices for components will directly increase the costs of insurers.
Currently, the average cost of the policy in the market remains in the range of 7-10 thousand rubles, but for drivers from the high-risk group it can exceed 20-30 thousand, it follows from the data of the Compare service. At the same time, by the end of the first quarter of 2026, the CTP segment turned out to be unprofitable in 60 regions, as previously reported in the RSA.
The main reason is the increase in prices for spare parts, repairs and logistics, which increases the average payout. Additionally, fraudsters, car lawyer schemes and the fact that inflation is growing faster than base tariff rates are putting pressure on the insurers' economy.
According to the Central Bank, the loss ratio for CTP in the first three months of the year was 98%. If the indicator exceeds 100%, this type of insurance becomes obviously unprofitable for companies. In the first quarter, the average insurance payout increased by almost 10% compared to last year and reached 119 thousand rubles.
Further increase in the cost of components may increase pressure on the market. As a result, growing losses in one form or another can lead to an increase in the cost of policies, experts say.
The revision of insurance tariffs is the responsibility of the Central Bank. Izvestia sent a request to the regulator.
Rising prices for spare parts gradually increase the cost of car ownership. The aging fleet requires more and more frequent repairs, the prices of imported components depend on the ruble exchange rate and logistical costs, and the increase in the cost of parts affects CTP payments and may affect the cost of insurance policies in the future. As a result, car owners pay twice: when servicing the car and when insuring it. The expansion of the supply of high-quality analogues, the development of local production of components and the formation of transparent rules for the use of used parts during repairs will help reduce pressure on the market.
