There have been 357 road accidents in Russia over the past 24 hours.

Over the past day, 357 road accidents were recorded on Russian roads, in which 42 people were killed and 398 injured. 34 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on June 26 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

As a result of 68 accidents involving pedestrians, eight people were killed, and 63 more were injured in various degrees of severity. There are 16 child pedestrians among the injured, 12 of them were injured when crossing the roadway outside the designated areas. Of the total number of pedestrian incidents, 21 occurred at pedestrian crossings and 47 outside their area of operation.

20 bus accidents were recorded, in which one person was killed, and another 20 road users, including three children, needed medical attention. Half of the bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles.

58 accidents involving minors were registered, 64 young road users were injured, including 20 passengers and seven motor transport drivers. One child, a pedestrian, was killed. For example, in the city of Sunzha in the Republic of Ingushetia, a 16-year-old schoolboy, driving a cargo Gazelle without a driver's license, ran over an eight-year-old boy who was unaccompanied during the day and ran across the roadway outside a pedestrian crossing. The first grader died. At the same time, the nearest regulated pedestrian crossing is located at a distance of 350 m from the scene of the accident.

On the eve of the weekend, the State Traffic Inspectorate reminded parents of underage road users of the need to be more attentive to their children, monitor their behavior and leisure time. The absence or weakening of parental control on the street for children of preschool and primary school age often leads to injuries or deaths of young road users, the department noted. Parents were urged to use retroreflective elements on children's outerwear to improve the visibility of young pedestrians in the evening.

Citizens who have not been trained in driving schools and have not received the right to drive vehicles in accordance with the established procedure, or have been deprived of such a right, were urged to refrain from trying to get behind the wheel and drive on public roads. By their reckless actions, they endanger not only their personal lives and health, but also the lives of other road users. In addition, motorists were advised to be more careful on the roads of towns and cities in the summer, when children spend a lot of time outside.

"People driving should take special care when approaching pedestrian crossings, slowing down in front of them until they come to a complete stop in order to allow pedestrians crossing the roadway. Also remember that the behavior of children on the road is often unpredictable, so drivers should always be extremely collected when passing intersections and pedestrian crossings in order to have time to adequately respond to a possible sudden change in the traffic situation at any moment. Never rush to resume traffic, even if the traffic light allows you to do so, until you are sure that the crossing is completely free of pedestrians," said Police Colonel Sergei Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

The death rate in road accidents is planned to be reduced by one and a half times by 2030.
