Rodriguez: 13 countries and territories offered to help Venezuela after the earthquake

The acting President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez, said that 13 states and territories, as well as international organizations, had offered assistance to the country affected by the devastating earthquakes. The state of La Guaira was recognized as the most affected by the disaster, where dozens of buildings were destroyed.

Which countries have offered assistance

According to Rodriguez, the United States, Panama, Qatar, Cuba, Nicaragua, Turkey, Jordan, Colombia, Barbados, Great Britain, Brazil and Mexico expressed support for Venezuela. In addition, representatives of the United Nations and international financial institutions have contacted the Venezuelan government, ready to assist in the aftermath of the disaster.

Rescue teams from the United States, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador and Qatar will arrive in Venezuela in the coming hours. China, Brazil, as well as the Caribbean countries of Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, Saint Lucia and Dominica also offered assistance.

Casualties and destruction

According to Rodriguez, there are currently 32 dead and more than 700 injured who have been admitted to hospitals. The state of La Guayra was recognized as the most affected by the earthquakes, where dozens of buildings were destroyed. Caracas, the states of Miranda, Aragua, Carabobo and Falcon were also seriously affected.

The Venezuelan authorities have declared a state of emergency, and temporary shelters have been prepared for people left homeless. Classes in schools are suspended until further notice. In Caracas, the international airport of Maiqueti named after Simon Bolivar stopped working.

Circumstances of the earthquake

An earthquake of magnitude 7.5 occurred on June 24. The source of the natural cataclysm lay at a depth of 13 km. The country's Minister of the Interior, Justice and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, said on June 24 that several residential buildings and structures had collapsed in Venezuela as a result of a powerful earthquake.

Izvestia correspondent Anna Osipova showed footage from the scene. According to her, there are victims, rescue operations are currently underway, and the rescue guard is trying to find those who may be under the rubble.
