The Georgian Parliament accused the European Parliament of fascism because of the visa-free appeal

The position of the European Parliament on the need to preserve the visa-free regime of the European Union (EU) only for certain categories of Georgian citizens is fascist. This opinion was voiced on June 24 by the chairman of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili.

"It seems to me that it is already a scandal when in official documents we see not even fascist statements, but fascist appeals. In the statement of the European Parliament, there was a call for the segregation of the Georgian people, they were divided into social groups — groups of journalists, students, and activists separated. And that these three social groups have more rights on the part of the EU than workers, peasants, engineers and doctors. This is called fascism," he said on the Rustavi 2 TV channel.

As the politician noted, such an initiative presupposes the de facto segregation of society into groups with different rights.

Papuashvili said on June 10 that the EU had demanded that Georgia impose sanctions against Russia in exchange for extending the visa-free regime. He noted that Brussels is trying to turn the visa into a political weapon.

On March 6, the European Commission suspended the visa-free regime for holders of Georgian official, official and diplomatic passports. The relevant decision was allegedly made against the background of systematic and deliberate violations by Georgia of its obligations under the visa-free regime "in key areas of democracy and fundamental rights."
