The first Chinese film shot in space was shown in Moscow
Seeing the globe through the eyes of Chinese taikonauts was such a rare opportunity for viewers in Moscow. On June 24, the first foreign screening of the unique documentary "The Blue Planet Outside the Window" took place. It is based on footage taken by the crew of the Shenzhou-13 spacecraft, which spent six months working in orbit.
The film became the first full—length film of the Media Corporation of China, a partner of the Russian National Media Group (NMG). Ultra-high-definition cameras provide maximum detail of the views from orbit, they also record in detail the daily life of the Tiangong station.
"This is a continuation of the cultural dialogue that is taking place between Russia and China, which allows us to build a common cultural code, speaks about our common values. And what is very important, this film is actually about the Earth and about the values that unite our peoples: home, family, Homeland," said Svetlana Balanova, Director General of NMG.
She expressed confidence that the film would be close to both Russian and Chinese viewers.
"Our leaders met and agreed that we will cooperate in the field of films, we will make films together. Today we are showing a Chinese film, and I believe that in the future we will show our joint films," said Zhang Hanhui, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the Russian Federation.
The premiere of the film "The Blue Planet Outside the Window" in China took place in September 2025. The film has record box office receipts.
Director of photography Andrey Volgin told Izvestia on March 19 that the film crew had begun work on the sequel to the Russian-Chinese film Red Silk. It was noted that filming takes place both in Russia and in China. Complex technical solutions are used for some scenes, including large-scale decorations and special pavilions.
