Big dreams — big sailing: ships, a train and a lighthouse will appear on Dvortsovaya
A whole city is being born now on the Palace Square of St. Petersburg. A few days ago, there were only metal structures and construction equipment here, but today the grandiose stage of the main celebration of Russian graduates, Scarlet Sails, has already grown. The scale is really impressive. The organizers admit that Dvortsovaya has not seen such a development yet. And although the key surprises are still being kept secret, it is already clear that a truly large–scale spectacle awaits us on June 27. Details can be found in the Izvestia article.
The city of dreams is being built around the clock
On Saturday evening, tens of thousands of graduates will flood one of the most beautiful squares in Russia. In the meantime, residents of the city and numerous tourists can see the stage of the future concert. The installation work has not been completed yet, but most of the structures are already ready. The work does not stop for an hour: while some specialists are moving around the grates and fixing the next devices, others are testing the operation of the decorative elements.

After her words, the paper boat, magnified several times, begins to move across the stage. Millions of people, at one glance, will immediately remember how they launched them through spring thawed areas and streams after rain.
"Now load the sails!" Everything should be perfect! — the director's voice is heard above the Palace.
At the center of the future show is an unusual space where reality is literally intertwined with the digital world. The facade of the station, a huge sail, columns and even a giant pipe are a screen. The total area of this year's video surfaces will exceed 1,000 square meters.
— The basis of the design this year is the creation of a virtual space inside the stage itself. Almost every element of it is a screen. The whole concept is based on the combination of real and virtual space. We will constantly transform the stage with the help of videography, but at the same time we will not forget about the stage mechanics. In order to preserve entertainment, it is important to combine a virtual transformation with a physical one," Alexey Bulgakov, technical director of the concert part of the Scarlet Sails festival, explained to Izvestia.
The silhouette of the future platform can already be seen on the stage. Behind him are the screens again. When they move apart, a 15-meter, almost life-size wagon will appear from this technological depot. This is not just a decoration, but a real game layout.
Another unusual detail is a special mechanized radio—controlled platform.
It will resemble a boat from a school notebook to a ruler. It is on it that graduates will see the presenters of the holiday.
A 13-meter DJ tube and a real lighthouse
For the first time in the history of the holiday, there will be not two, but five of them. Graduates will be led to their dreams by the stars of the TV series phenomenon "Lilies of the Valley" Nika Zdorik and Sergey Gorodnichy, singer Julianna Karaulova, musician Vyacheslav Makarov and actress Daria Alexandrova. But that's not all. For the first time, the presenters themselves will become part of the musical and theatrical action.
Dozens of engineers, installers and artists are currently working on Dvortsovaya, but very soon the metal structures will disappear behind epic decorations, and the square will turn into a fantastic city where the main hitmakers of the music industry will sing especially for graduates.
Their names are already known.: These are Yelka, Julianna Karaulova, Lucy Chebotina, Alex Lim, Filatov & Karas, the TRITIA group, Alyona Sviridova and Grigory Miroshnichenko, Julia Peresild and the MANDRAGORA group.
The organizers could not pass by one of the most popular performers of recent years, Tatiana Kurtukova. Her hit "Mother" is known by heart not only by every Russian, but even by American singer Jason Derulo, who recently began his concert performance in Moscow with the words "Mother Earth, white birch."
Another element of the scene is the trumpet. A DJ's stand is installed inside it on a special platform. He will have to swing the hall of thousands from a height of 13.5 meters.
But that's not all! This year, a real lighthouse will be built on the stage, which will be located on a unique mast. This design has become one of the main engineering challenges.
According to the idea of the artists, the 30-meter mast should look almost weightless — thin, transparent and almost invisible to the viewer. But this lightness hides the most complicated calculations: the structure must withstand strong winds and heavy loads. There will also be a laser light on it, which will give a light signal for 10 km.
As lighting designer Alexander Sivaev told Izvestia, in fact, this is a powerful laser device, whose beam will be seen by half of St. Petersburg.
— This is the largest construction project in the history of the "Scarlet Sails" on the Palace Square. And, perhaps, the most unusual. Most of all, I like how the engineers managed to realize the artistic idea this year. It's really a very difficult job to implement such a non—standard architecture, while maintaining the functionality of all structures," said Bulgakov.
Trials for the Brig Rossiya
But the highlight of the holiday will be a water and pyrotechnic show with the passage of the brig Rossiya. As last year, the ship will start moving at the Senate Square, enter the open gate of the Palace Bridge, proceed along the Palace Embankment, make a 360-degree turn at the Winter Groove, then continue moving towards the Trinity Bridge. And the return route will run from Troitsky to the Palace Bridge along the Palace Embankment.
This year, the brig will enter the Neva River for the eighth time. The first rehearsals have already taken place. Despite the professionalism of the team, every pass of "Russia" becomes a test for the whole team. To work out the route before the main summer night, the ship makes from 15 to 25 passes. The moments when the wind comes into play become especially difficult.
— We have to get to certain points of the route with very high accuracy: the permissible deviation from the timing is a maximum of five seconds. The speed of the vessel, the movement along the route, the turn — every detail is subordinated to seconds. When the brig performs her signature turn, the crew synchronously unfolds the yards so that the scarlet sails are always facing the spectators on the embankment. Everything is honed to automatism, but it requires maximum concentration. Every rehearsal is also a test. The weather in St. Petersburg is changeable. This year, it provides an opportunity to test the vessel in different conditions. According to the forecast, there will be an easterly wind this night and a westerly wind the next," Oleg Nikolaev, captain of the brig Rossiya, told Izvestia.
After a long-term hiatus, the legendary prom was revived in 2005 on the initiative of ROSSIYA Joint Stock Bank, the Government of St. Petersburg and Channel Five.
