The use of so-called fuel pills, which appeared on marketplaces and allegedly artificially increase the octane number of cheap gasoline, instead of benefits, is guaranteed to lead owners to overhaul the engine. The technical director of LN Distribution LLC (Lynx, NGN, Ichiro brands) told Izvestia about this on June 25. Andrey Babushkin.

"If we consider the classical chemical scheme of rapid octane acceleration (when the driver fills in the conditional Ai-92, throws a tablet and expects to receive Ai-95), then such products are usually based on ferrocene compounds based on iron or sulfur. Yes, metal-based chemical elements can briefly increase the detonation resistance and calorific value of fuel. However, you have to pay for this with colossal side effects, which ultimately lead to extensive breakdowns," Babushkin said.

The expert explained that the solid deposits formed during the combustion of such tablets forcibly destroy spark plugs, clog the fuel system elements and literally "kill" expensive catalysts. Moreover, the fireproof metal microparticles in the cylinders create a strong abrasive effect, provoking increased wear of the piston group. An attempt to save several hundred rubles at a gas station is guaranteed to result in an engine overhaul, he warned.

The specialist noted that it is important to separate dubious artisanal forms in the form of tablets and professional auto chemicals. If the driver needs to safely adjust the fuel properties (for example, on a long trip when refueling at a questionable gas station), there are certified liquid octane boosters from leading global and domestic brands for this purpose. They use proven industrial-grade technologies similar to those used in oil refineries. They are available in a strictly dosed concentrated form and work without harmful effects on the motor.
