The Ministry of Transport announced that there are no plans to introduce bans for right-hand drive cars.

The Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation is engaged in research and analytical work related to the risks of driving right-hand drive vehicles. There is no question of imposing restrictions or any prohibitions on such machines. The ministry's statement is quoted by RIA Novosti on June 24.

The ministry noted that the collection of analytics on the specifics of driving right-hand drive vehicles is necessary to reduce risks on the roads.

Izvestia reported on May 22 that the Russian government instructed the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Transport, with the participation of FSUE NAMI, to conduct a comprehensive study of the risks of right-hand drive vehicles in traffic. The government has been instructed to report the results of the study by 2028. This became known from the order approving the action plan for the implementation of the Strategy for Improving Road Safety in the Russian Federation for the period up to 2030 and for the future up to 2036.

There is another event dedicated to right-hand drive vehicles, which the government expects to report on by 2027. The Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Industry and Trade were instructed to work out the feasibility of developing sample professional training programs for drivers of vehicles with right-hand steering. This is required for the training of such drivers in the regions of the Russian Federation, where a significant proportion of the fleet of vehicles is accounted for by right-hand drive vehicles, the document says.

Earlier, on January 5, Rosstandart stated that there was no talk of banning right-hand drive cars in Russia. They admitted that some changes may be made to the relevant GOST standards in 2026, which will make it more difficult to confirm the compliance of right-hand drive vehicles with the established requirements.

In September last year, the Russian Interior Ministry said that the ministry was not putting forward or supporting initiatives to impose additional burdens on right-hand drive vehicles.
