The German opposition Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has called on German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to support the initiative of European Council President Antonio Costa to resume dialogue with Russia. This was announced on June 23 by the co-chairman of the party, Tino Krupalla, during a press conference with another AfD co-chairman, Alice Weidel, broadcast on YouTube.

"We call on Friedrich Merz to finally demonstrate true leadership. Tomorrow he should change course, support the initiative of the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, and finally open diplomatic channels," he said.
