The priest named the most famous icons and monuments to Peter and Fevronia.

Images of the Murom spouses as patrons of family and marriage are widely represented in Orthodox churches throughout Russia, and sculptures dedicated to them have been installed in many cities. Philip Ilyashenko, a priest and vice-rector of St. Tikhon's Orthodox University for the Humanities, told Izvestia about this.

The priest explained that the active development of the iconographic tradition began after the canonization of saints at the church council of 1547 under Metropolitan Macarius. Since that time, their images have become widespread, including being included in the painting of the Archangel Cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin.

"The key feature of the icons of Peter and Fevronia is their joint image, symbolizing the inseparability of the marital union. Hagiographic icons are also common, where scenes of their lives are placed in stigmata around the central image," Ilyashenko said.

He added that one of the revered images is located above a shrine with the relics of saints in the Holy Trinity Convent in Murom. Pilgrims come there every year to worship the shrine. This image belongs to the later ones and was painted already in our days. In the center of the composition, the couple are depicted in monastic vestments.

According to him, the increase in the number of monuments to Peter and Fevronia is connected with the establishment of Family, Love and Fidelity Day in 2008, which coincides with the day of church commemoration of the saints.

"One of the first monuments to Peter and Fevronia was erected at the registry office in Murom. The composition is called "Union of love — wise marriage". The saints are depicted as two kneeling figures holding out their hands to each other. Another monument later appeared at the walls of the Holy Trinity Convent. Here Peter and Fevronia stand side by side and hold hands, the prince has a sword on his belt as a symbol of power, and the princess's veil is draped over his shoulders, which symbolizes her wisdom and patronage," the priest said.

Today, monuments to Murom saints have been erected in more than two dozen Russian cities, including Sergiev Posad, Yaroslavl, Yekaterinburg, Sochi, Novosibirsk and Irkutsk. At the same time, Moore remains the main center of veneration of the holy spouses.
