The Central Bank reported an increase in supporters of cash among Russians
In 2025, 48% of Russians said they could not imagine life without cash payments. This was confirmed on June 23 by research data from the Central Bank of Russia.
A year earlier, the share of such citizens was 43%. At the same time, the number of those who completely refused cash decreased from 10% in 2024 to 5% in 2025. The average cost of one purchase paid for with banknotes increased from 1,731 to 1,999 rubles.
According to the study, 89% of respondents carry bills worth more than 300 rubles and 87% have coins with them. At the same time, 84% of Russians are satisfied with the quality of banknotes in circulation, the Central Bank said.
On June 8, the Central Bank noted that in May 2026, the volume of cash in circulation in Russia increased by 381.2 billion rubles. This figure was the highest for May for the entire period of disclosure of such statistics since 1995. The high demand of economic agents for cash has been recorded for the third month in a row.
