Mourning has been declared in the Voronezh Region from 23 to 25 June in connection with the deaths of civilians as a result of an air attack by Ukrainian armed forces. This was announced on June 23 by the governor of the region, Alexander Gusev.

"Of course, there are no words that can drown out the pain of the relatives and friends of those whom we lost on June 22, 2026. All of us Voronezh residents grieve with them. Telegrams with words of sympathy are also coming from other regions. Thank you to our compatriots for such human solidarity and support in a difficult hour," the head of the region said in his Telegram channel.

During the mourning period, national flags will be lowered at half-mast throughout the Voronezh Region. Local cultural institutions and broadcasting companies are advised to adjust the content of broadcasts and refrain from entertainment events.

Gusev expressed confidence that all those involved in giving and executing the criminal order to strike Voronezh will certainly be punished as they deserve. The head of the region stressed that the Russian military personnel on the front line would give the enemy a worthy response, and expressed faith in the army and the common Victory, noting that the residents of the region would stand up like their ancestors during the Great Patriotic War.

The governor drew attention to the special cynicism of the incident, pointing out that the blow was inflicted by Ukrainian neo—Nazis on the Day of Remembrance and Mourning - June 22. According to him, the enemy hoped to cause panic and fear among the civilian population, but these actions led only to the opposite result.

According to Gusev, the terrorist attack did not break Voronezh residents, but only increased their indignation and determination to resist the enemy, whom he called "Ukrainian and Western fools" who are unable to understand the futility of such methods.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces attack on Voronezh became known the day before. Due to the impact, the production facilities of one of the enterprises and apartment buildings were damaged. It was later reported that five people were killed as a result of a rocket attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Later, the Mayor of Voronezh, Sergey Petrin, added that the Voronezh authorities would compensate the owners of the cars damaged in the attack. The Investigative Committee (IC) has opened a criminal case.
