- The football match interrupted by the beginning of the Second World War was played in Murmansk after 85 years
85 years later, a football match was played in Murmansk, which was interrupted on June 22, 1941 due to the outbreak of the Great Patriotic War (WWII). This was announced on June 23 by the governor of the region Andrey Chibis.
"85 years later: a match that we had to finish! An event filled with a special meaning took place in Murmansk. At the Builder Stadium, where the good old Pishchevik used to be, we were obliged to put an end to the match, which was interrupted on June 22, 1941," Chibis wrote on his Telegram channel.
The governor noted that during the match he thought about those who did not have time to finish the game, and stressed that today's players did it for them to say that their memory is alive. According to him, the memory of those who gave the opportunity to live and play football under a peaceful sky won on the field.
On June 22, an action "Candle of Memory" was held on the Cathedral Square of the Main Church of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in the Moscow region, dedicated to the Day of Remembrance and Mourning in honor of the beginning of the Second World War. The military set candles along the Memorial Road museum complex near capsules with earth brought from burial sites and mass graves of Soviet soldiers.
